Excerpt from “Electrical Nutrition” on how grain based diets do not promote health in our pets.
“The rise in cancer rates in people also seems to correspond to the increase in cancer in our pets. Thirty years ago, working farm dogs were fed a diet of 100 percent meat, and to have a sick dog, particularly one with cancer, was unheard of. Today, however, the average farmer often feeds his dogs “hard food”, which is a grain-based dog biscuit. Digestive and bowel disorders and other diseases in working dogs are now rampant, and cancer is increasingly prevalent. This is also the case in a large percentage of domestic cats and dogs that are fed large amounts of grain in their packaged hard food. When you feed a carnivore (cats and dogs) an herbivore’s diet, you will eventually kill it with degenerative diseases.” – Denie Hiestand
– Dr Francis Pottenger, in his experiments with cats, demonstrated that the healthiest, happiest cats were the ones on the all-raw-food diet. The cats eating cooked meats and pasteurized milk sickened and died and had numerous parasites.
Note: Be a little wary of manufactured supplements such as enzymes, probiotics etc…, However, you may like to consider ‘living clay’ (montmorillinite or bentonite) because it’s completely natural. The easiest way to give your pet living clay would be to add it to their drinking water from time to time (1/2 teaspoon per litre of water and just stir it in).
Please know, there was a marked difference in experiments done on feeding animals fresh raw meat and pre-frozen raw meat. All of the animals did much better on a fresh raw meat diet compared to pre-frozen raw meat. (This should be mentioned because some info suggests to freeze all raw meat before feeding it to pets). Of course, pre-frozen raw meat would be the next best choice to fresh.
Please remember, that it is all just information, so use your own common sense on what you feel would be best for your pet and your situation.
